Welcome Letter to Parents

The "Meet Your Teacher" flyer demonstrates professional communication by explicitly valuing a "partnership between home and school" and providing accessible contact information. I ensure all guardians are unified in supporting the student’s behavioral, social-emotional, and academic growth. This dual approach effectively meets the CAP standard for engaging both families and colleagues to foster a supportive learning environment. III-A-1 Parent/Family Engagement

Collaboration with Teachers

Highlights of professional partnership

Initially, my collaborating teacher and I found ourselves in a cycle of frustration. We were faced with a student whose behavioral needs manifested as frequent "bolts" from the room, constant vocal call-outs, and impulsive physical outbursts. These actions didn't just hinder the individual student’s progress; they created a fractured learning environment for the entire group. Despite our best efforts to implement standard classroom management strategies, we hit a plateau. It felt as though we had exhausted our internal toolkit, leading to a sense of professional defeat.

The turning point occurred when we sought the expertise of a special educator. This peer-to-peer consultation was the bridge we needed. They recommended leveraging the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. By bringing our data and concerns to the MTSS team, we moved beyond anecdotal frustration and into a space of targeted, evidence-based intervention. This collaborative brainstorm allowed us to see the student’s behavior through a new lens—viewing the "bolts" and "call-outs" not as defiance, but as unmet needs or lagging skills.

Following the MTSS meeting, we implemented a specialized behavior plan that included more frequent reinforcement and clearer environmental cues. The results were transformative. We witnessed extreme growth in the students’ self-regulation. By diversifying the perspectives involved in the student's success, we successfully reduced impulsive incidents and restored a sense of calm to the classroom. This experience reaffirmed that when an educator feels "stuck," the best way forward is to open the door and invite a team in.
